    Hello all,

I’m having a slight issue with my preview screen in my 64-bit version of Vegas Pro 9. There is a contant lag when I play my clips via my timeline. I’ve already changed the preview settings to Preview/Auto instead of the Best mode it was on and saw no change. I also only try to play the events in my timeline when it’s completely zoomed out, as I know that sometimes helps, but that hasn’t helped either.

I don’t even get why there is a lag because I run a very high-powered Mac. Could it have osmething to do with the fact that I’m running Windows via Bootcamp?

    These are my computer specs:

Two 2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” processors
    1TB hard drive
    16 GB of RAM
    18x double-layer SuperDrive
    ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB GDDR5

I’ve been doing some testing with AviDemux since you’ve been having problems and I’m noticing that for certain source files, it is not creating the M-JPEG files correctly and Vegas is having problems with them. I’m thinking this is an AviDmux issue and not an issue with the M-JPEG format which should play back smoothly but I just converted some AVCHD video to M-JPEG with AviDEmux and the playback is not smooth in Vegas at all and I’m getting different results for Vegas Pro 9.0 vs Vegas Pro 10. Unfortunately, Vegas Pro 9 is giving me trouble so I may have given you advice that only works with Vegas Pro 10. (I’m not sure why you just bought Vegas and didn’t get 10?)

I’ve tried MPEG Streamclip and that seems to give better results. It just supports less formats unless you want to install Quicktime Alternative. Since I use Quicktime Pro I can’t do that but you possibly could.

Try converting one of your files to M-JPEG using MPEG Streamclip and see if it plays any smoother.
