    Hi there,

I’m having some issues previewing my clips in Premiere. Everytime I hit enter the render dialog comes up and runs fine untill it gets to the end when premier crashes, no matter the lengh of the clip.

The clips are full hd 1940×1080, 30 fps, movs.

    Any help would be great!

    thanks in advance

    Simon

I hope 1940×1080 is a typo as that is not a standard frame dimension.

Where did the footage come from, what format is it?

WHat are your project settings and render/preview codec settings?
(find in App Top Menu Sequecne>Sequence Settings).

    oh yeah sorry that was a type it’s 1920 x 1080.

The footage was shot on a Canon 5D2 and is a quicktime file .mov

    My project settings are;

    General
    Editing mode: Desktop
    Timebase 30.frames/second
    Frame size: 1920 x 1080
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pxels (1.0)
    Fields: No Fields (progessive scan)

    Video Rendering
Maximum bit depth box is unchecked
    File format: Video for Windows
    Compressor: Blackmagix 8bit MPEG Codec

I also realised that even if I scrub through the footage the red bar along the top doesn’t go green at any point so it seems like it won’t preview any of the footage.

I hope that’s enough information, and I appreciate you taking the time to help me out 🙂

    Hi Simon,

if you are using CS4 or earlier, then you will need to convert your footage to another format, such as MPEG-2 HD or get a thrid party product from cineform called “NeoScene”.

CS5 can edit HDSLR video clips natively, and is the only NLE that can do so at this stage.

CS5 has DSLR presets, there is one for 1080p 30 which would fit your clip settings. Or if you aren’t sure, CS5 has the ability to drag and drop a clip from the project panel over the new item button at the bottom of the project panel (looks like a piece of paper with a corner folded over). This will make a new seq with the matching settings of the clip.

Oh ok, I’m on CS4 at the moment so I’ll convert the clips to mpeg 2 then. Hopefully we’re upgrading to CS5 shortly though.

Thanks for all the help! Really appreciate it,

    Simon 🙂
