    Hi,
I’m having a preview problem in Vegas Pro 9. When I play back an event in my preview window or on my preview monitor, my preview settings revert to “Preview (Half)” automatically. In other words, I set the settings to “Best(Auto)” but as soon as I begin playing the event, the setting reverts to “Preview (Half).” I don’t understand why the setting keeps reverting back from my initial setting. If you have any idea what is going on, please let me know. Your help would be most appreciated. Thanks, Ray

I don’t understand why the setting keeps reverting back from my initial setting.

This is new feature of Vegas Pro 9.0. You can disable it by right-clicking on the preview window and deselect: “Adjust Size and Quality for Optimal Playback“. Then be prepared for stutter playback because Vegas was turning down the quality to keep up with the frame rate.

    Hi John,
You’re absolutely right. I can’t get any better playback than “Preview Full.” I unchecked “Adjust Size and Quality for Optimal Playback” as you suggested and like you said, I received stutter during playback using the “Best” option. I really thought I could use the “Best Full” option due to the size of my workstation (below). Thanks John for clearing up my problem. I sincerely appreciate all your help. Ray

I would like to thank you John for that response as well. I had just this exact question and Ray just happend to beat me to it.

John, it looks like you have a great system. I don’t know what else you could do. As Vegas is mostly CPU dependent, I suppose the new 6 core processor might be of benefit. I have yet to see how anyone with this processor is fairing. I have the QX 9770 and it seems that I am having the same issues as you are.

I work mostly with HDV and avoid AVCHD like the plague. Depending on formats you are working with, your editing experience will either be smooth or choppy. If you are working with HD and you want a consistent editing experience then I highly recommend that you look at CineForm NeoScene. It will convert your footage into a high quality HD format that is easy to work with and stands up well to multiple renders for working with other 3rd party applications like After Effects, etc. You can easily edit multi-track CineForm footage with smooth playback on a QuadCore.
