November 17, 2016 at 11:34 amfirst make sure you manage expectations about real-time playback in after effects. read here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/kb/all-about-previews-in-after-effects-cc-2015–13-5-.htmlAfter Effects is designed to play back frames cached to RAM in real-time. some of the time it is capable of playing back in real-time without caching. this capability has been greatly improved in CC2015.3 And more in CC2017. the exception are certain mac systems but good news – there is a new update fix: https://blogs.adobe.com/creativecloud/after-effects-cc-november-2017-bug-fix-update-is-now-available/ that is supposed to resolve the very annoying playback issues with 10.11 and 10.12 Os. see if it improves the situation on Yosemite as well.

November 17, 2016 at 3:36 pmWe went up to 10.2 with that problem system and nothing got fixed.
She had to go back to CC2015.7x and went with no 3D text just so she can time her titles.
The issues also occurred when no other layers were involved.
Just hated playing anything with audio 😛

November 18, 2016 at 4:44 pmUpdate CC 2017 to version 14.0.1 and then, once a preview is cached, it should play back real time again. The update fixed the problem that’s been happening for some folks since CC 2015 first released.

November 23, 2016 at 2:55 pmYup I was a fool and just updated without saving the prior version. How do you set that up by the way? This release is a joke. I was a big fan of the cloud concept but if adobe is going to continue to release stuff that has no business seeing the light of day I am going to have to start looking around.
I cant be going through this once a year.
