Preview not working after quicktime update
Posted by Jefferson Lima on April 1, 2010 at 1:57 amI just updated Itunes + Quicktime today (march 31 2010) and now I can’t view any video preview when using my .mov movies from my Canon camera!
Even Windows Movie Maker can still handle them, but Vegas simply stopped diplaying the video.
What happened??

April 1, 2010 at 6:35 amWhat happened was that you updated quick time. It sounds like your version of Vegas does not work with what you just installed.

April 1, 2010 at 9:35 amHere’s the workaround from a user on the Sony Vegas forum who got burned by this as well.
Get iTunes 8, version 8.2.1 which includes the last Vegas-compatible version of Quicktime, which is 7.6.2.
I got that version of iTunes at https://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=46.Turn off QT updates and Apple software updater so that this doesn’t happen to you again.
If you’ve already run iTunes 9 and uninstalled it, it leaves behind a file called “iTunes Library.itl” which is not backwards compatible to version 8, so iTunes 8 will not run until that is remedied.
I just removed it and “iTunes Music Library.xml” in my My Music\iTunes folder so that the whole library got recreated from scratch. -

April 1, 2010 at 4:44 pmQuicktime 7.6.6 also breaks DVFilm Epic I, our DSLR plugin for Vegas. We had to put a note on our product page.
If you can’t find a later version of QT that works, Apple has an official download page for 7.6:

April 1, 2010 at 10:30 pmThanks for all the help.
I installed the 7.55 version of quicktime and now Vegas is working again. But, like Mike, Itunes won’t start now.
Apple can really be a pain in the ass.
Do you think this will be ‘fixed‘ on late Quicktime updates or should I just give up on updating Itunes+quicktime?

April 2, 2010 at 12:47 amI would give up the updating. I have a sneaky hunch that Apple may want to break competitive applications. I don’t know why Sony continues to rely on quick time.
