I’m wanting to work on/preview my FCP timeline footage on a second external monitor without routing firewire through a camcorder, then from the camcorder into the monitor. What’s the system for going directly from my Mac G5 to a monitor? When I made one attempt, all I saw on the monitor from the computer was the screensaver. Thanks for your help.

    Dave,
Thanks. I agree. I should have been more specific. My second monitor IS a video monitor. I’m just trying to find a way to see my edit-in-progress timeline on that video monitor without routing through a camcorder.

    Dave,

Thanks for the info. I’ll research the items you mentioned. And I gave up on anything free or cheap a long time ago.
By the way, I have a G5, which should allow the added item you suggested.

Blackmagic makes the most affordable in/out cards. AJA is best, but pricey (no surprise there).

If you are looking for an inexpensive solution for a G5, I have a used AJA Kona 2 with KBox (breakout box).

I had to replace it when I got a MacPro, as it is PCI-X. As everyone on here will attest, AJA makes great products.
