Help! I’m using FCP 4 HD, and suddenly, using the same equipment, i.e. the same camera, the same computer, etc, I’m getting the Preview Disabled message in the Log and Capture mode. I’m so frustrated as I’m on the road and need to get this done. Is there anyone that knows what’s the problem? I’ve read the posts and tried those suggestions, except the one that suggest reinstalling the software which is not an option now. I can’t believe that this is so finniky. I really hope someone has the answer.

Was the camera on before you launched FCP?

Try quitting / restarting FCP with the camera on.

Try selecting another Capture Preset, then switch back to the one you want to capture to.

Ensure there are no other A/V firewire devices connected to your computer.

on the apple website in the knowledge base there is an article regarding just this. If you are trying to run tiger, your quicktime player needs to be booted and replaced. In the library folder is a folder for receipts. Delete any quicktime receipts where the version is shown in the name…or better yet, read the article on the knowledge base. I could control the deck, but could not see nor digitize any video until I installed quicktime 7.0.1.

Thank you so much. I was just about to post to tell that I’d found that website and discovered the problem. I found the site, deleted the number including receipts but I didn’t realize that I needed to reinstall QT. When I was told to reinstall QT I learned that the reinstall was the final piece of the puzzle. Thank you and I hope this will help others.
