I am running FCP 6 and have been unable to capture video from a panasonic camcorder. The screen displays those inscrutable color bars with the Preview Disabled message overlaid.

This has been a sporadic problem, seemingly correcting itself a month or so ago, since when I have not needed to capture video. But now no image appears despite the Log And Capture mode still giving me control over the camera’s playback function.

I should add that the FW connection is good – the video image appears in iMovie.

I believe this is not an uncommon problem though googling it has produced limited results. One suggestion was to reinstall quicktime (I only have the basic QT player). I did this but unless I did it inadequately (should all the myriad QT system items be trashed?) it made no difference.

Advice please. I need hardly add that this is hair-tearingly frustrating

    Hi Peter,
With the camera switched ON, try to duplicate the Capture Setup. This may force FC to recognize the camera instead of the Default camera of the preset (normally a Canon).

    Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1
    G5 2x2Gh 4GbRAM-BlackMagic Extreme
    PMBP 17″Core2Duo 4GbRAM-AJA ioHD
    JVC DTV-17″
    SONY EX-1 . SONY PD170
..and always a big mess on top of the table.

Sorry for the belated response, but Rafael’s suggestion seemed to work..although when I checked the original capture set-up that seemed to work too. All of this was after some hours of machine idleness so it is possible that something else was amiss. Either way, many thanks… Pete Shelton
