I’ve seen other similar issues but none of the suggestions on there have worked.

    G4 Dual 450 running Panther 10.3.9 and FCP 4.5hd
    1. When you bring up the log and capture window you see “preview disabled” dispite the settings being correct. You can control the deck, but when you capture you get an error message saying “no video found” and it aborts. All this despite being able to see video and hear audio out to the deck/camera.
1a. Went through the classic reset external video and checking video settings. Then trashed the preferences files. No dice.
    2. I used the QT 6.5.2 reinstaller and this had no effect.
    3. Did a clean install of FCP according to Apple’s specific recomendations for uninstalling FCP 4.5. Still have the same problem. (Yes, I’m running QT 6.5.2 at this point)

PS: Before inadvertantly upgrading to QT 7 we appeared to have no problems.

    Any suggestions?

I had precisely the same problem with more or less the same hardware. I upgraded to Quicktime 7.0.1. and like the problem disappeared.
