What I see in the preview window looks great, but when I go to render, everything is misaligned, sometimes drastically.

I am layering many components into a video. Some are coming from video shot at 1920×1080, some 1440×1080, but .jpeg pictures I use for background are created as 1920×1080. I have to do a good deal of tweaking to make them fit properly in my preview window. When I go to render it, using 1920×1080, the image produced is totally misaligned.

If my intent is to create a 1920×1080, 24p movie, how can I keep all the parameters consistent? What am I missing?

You need to set your Preview window to Best/Full for accurate alignment purposes.
Also, make sure your Project Properties are set to 1920 x 1080.

As Mike said, is your project set to 1920×1080 24p? That would be the first thing to check. What are you aligning that is not aligned during render?
