In previewing footage from my Sony FX1, the capture window does not show the footage and basically tells me to preview it in my camera. This is HDV, by the way. I believe some time ago, I tried the DV clip and I got nothing on the internal monitor. I a running:
    Mac OSX
    CS3
    10 GB ram
    quad 3.0 GHZ

This is the problem with HDV (not Premiere), you can’t preview while capturing. It has to do with long GOP format, as you can’t see footage until it’s indexed (reconstructed).

Thanks for the info, however, when I had Windows and CS2, it did show the preview until I pressed “capture”. Now that I paid a butt load of money for a Mac and CS3 it doesn’t have that option…very dissapointing.

I misread… Not on a Mac here, but My understanding is that you should be able to see it as well. Maybe a CS3 Mac user will shine in, although they are still far and few.

That’s why I use HDVSplit, free and it allows preview before and during captures. I don’t know why Premiere is not able but other company is.
