  • Pretty Please……Animate Power-window Manually?

Posted by Jay Lee on November 22, 2010 at 10:03 pm

Would one of you fine folk please take 3 seconds and describe how one changes the position of a Power-window manually (not auto tracked) through out a shot? Perhaps I’m simply ‘thick’ but this very basic procedure seems remarkably illusive.
I have managed to move a window via ‘start dynamic’ from A to B points however not able to add intermediate points.

    All thoughts appreciated.

    Cheers,

    J

In Resolve, manual animation is achieved using what DaVinci calls “Dynamics.” Choosing Dynamics > Start Dynamics (Option-M) places a “dynamic mark” in the Clip tab (bottom-left corner of the Color page) at the position of the playhead. Marks are DaVinci’s term for keyframes).

If you have a Wave, the F1 button creates dynamic marks (connected by a crossfade graphic), as opposed to regular marks (vertical red lines), which are similar to “hold keyframes” in After Effects in that the effect abruptly jumps at each mark, rather then interpolating as with dynamics. There are a couple of pages in the manual, but you have to search for “Dynamics.”

One other option is to use Auto keyframing. Click on the 3rd icon, right next to the lock icon. When this is turned on for any node, any change on that node’s parameter will automatically add a dynamic mark at that frame. You can expand the list and enable it only for a given window if you only want to position the window.

A true revelation! Thank you Alex and Rohit.
Can’t help but wonder what other miracles are buried behind this very dubious piece of technical writing referred to as the Resolve ‘Manual’.

    Cheers,

There’s FXPHD for that, I think.. 🙂 Haven’t got the latest myself though. Would be interesting to see that one.

The last one from the vault is pretty old and covers more the workflow of being a colorist than actually teaching Resolve in depth.

Don’t waste your money, wait until the next term for the intermediate course, this one is pretty basic, and the professor doesn’t seem to know much, or not giving enough info.

Hi guys. It would be AWESOME if someone could explain how to do the same in Resolve 9! Iäm pretty stuck with my Power Window, and I need to animate it manually.

    Kind Regards,

    Johan
