  • Pressing U or U+U no longer working as expected in AE.

Posted by Xavier Bonet on April 26, 2023 at 3:34 pm

I recently updated to the latest AE and have notices that the U shortcut is no longer working as it has always worked. If I select a layer and press it once it reveals the keyframes, if I press it twice it reveals anything that has been changed from its default value, so far so good. But when I click off all layers, ie select none, and try using the U shortcut to collapse all layers, it no longer works. It collapses some but not all. You can imagine how in comps with MANY layers this quickly becomes aggravating. Is it a bug or is it something Adobe has changed?

    Hey Bonet,

It’s possible that this is a bug in the latest version of After Effects, or it could be a change that Adobe made intentionally. One thing you could try is resetting your preferences to see if that resolves the issue. You can do this by going to the “Preferences” menu and selecting “General” > “Reset Preferences on Quit.”

    Hello

This may be a bug in the latest version of After Effects or a change made by Adobe. Some users have reported similar issues with the U shortcut not working as expected. One possible workaround is to try using the Toggle Switches/Modes button at the bottom of the Layers panel to collapse all layers. Another option is to customize the keyboard shortcut using the Keyboard Shortcuts editor to ensure it works as expected

    THANKS

I was so excited to try and see if the Toggle Switches / Modes button would collapse all layers (although I’ve never seen this happening before) but alas it doesn’t 🙁

I’m inclined to think its a bug because if Adobe has intentionally done away with one of the most useful functions that I probably use more than anything else when working on an AE comp… well, I was gonna say I’ll be looking for a substitute for AE but that’d just be an empty threat… With Adobe one can only take it and stew in our frustrations…

Unfortunately, changing the default key shortcut won’t do anything because it’s not that AE isn’t registering my input or something like that, as some layers are acting as expected; it’s just that often it just goes nuts and decides that all layers from layer X down will no longer respond to anything.
