  • Presets to use when importing Black Magic Cinema Camera Footage?

Posted by David Jim on September 17, 2015 at 2:27 pm

Hi, this might be a stupid questions but I just want to make sure I’m using the right Video Settings when editing my Black Magic 1920 x 1080 ProRes 422 PAL footage. I have a few 5D shots in the timeline and it seems that my FCP Preset keeps changing back to HDV 1080p 25 which I imagine is my 5D file size.

What would you suggest I change my Sequence and Capture Presets to work with these? 90% of files are Blackmagic.

Thanks a lot for your help
    Dave

Did you convert the 5D footage to ProRes as well? Or HDV?

Make a new sequence. Drop in the ProRes files you made from the BMD camera. click YES when it asks to change the settings to match the clips. Use that sequence.

That’s awesome, thanks Shane. I didn’t convert the 5D to Pro Res. I’m guessing I should delete these from timeline, convert to Pro Res, reimport so they have the same settings as my BMCC?

    Cheers for the help.

The 5D shoots H.264…And FCP doesn’t work with that codec well. You must ALWAYS convert your footage to ProRes if you use FCP 7 or under. It demands FCP editing codecs.
