    i everyone,
This is a bit frustrating. We shoot hours of documentary footage on a Z1 without preset timecode, tapes running from 0-40. FCP log and captures captures no problem.

When the odd cameraman decides to preset the hour timecode to 1, 2 etc…, to indicate which tape he is shooting, final cut seems to create new clips at random during batch capture. Not between takes, not when the camera was stopped. Just at random points during a shot.

This happens on both our MacPro and PowermacG5, capturing via firewire to FCP6.0.4. It doesnt happen with Digibeta via SDi. So after we nicely log tapes, it creates new clips with -1, -2, -3 at the end of each.

Now i know there are ways round it, but am getting frustrated with this amazing app not doing something simple.

    Any thoughts
    Thanks
    Nick

For years I have advised camera and production people to leave the HDV timecode to start at zero on each tape. using hours digits via preset has been known to create these false breaks. You could dub the preset tapes to a new tape with the code starting at zero and send the bill to the cameraman.

    HI michael,
…send the bill…that sound like it could be fun. I have known about this problem for 5 years, i just thought there would have been a way round by now. it just makes FCP look a little light when convincing people to use it. Cameramen always love setting the hour TC, it makes them look professional….

    thanks anyway
