  • Preserving Close Captioning on HDCAM master thru FCP

    Hi All,

I found a lot good posts regarding close-captioning on the COW but none really answered my questions.

Ive got a job where Im going to be taking some HDCAM master tapes (with close capturing) and capturing them into Final Cut. After removing some material (with a dissolve in between) Im going to relay them back to HDACM.

    My questions are:

Will the closecaptioning information come into FCP via the HDSDI output of the deck (passing through a through a Kona2 card on the way)?

Are there any special settings I have to choose on the deck or in Kona control panels?

Will I only lose this close caption information on the section of the video where I render the new dissolves (which is okay because there is no talking in those spots anyways)?

Thanks for any input you might have on this one.

I just called AJA tech support and they told me that as long as I capture everything uncompressed the close captioning info will pass through just fine. No special settings required. Wont lose anything.

    thanks

Just don’t color correct or add filters, then render. The renders, as I recall, blow the CC away.

    Yep…

I have found out that it works with other codecs as well, just don’t render anything. I’ve done this with XDCAM HD, IMX50, DVCAM, and DVCProHD codecs without a hitch.
