    hello,
I would be very thankful if someone could put me in the right direction…
My task is to prepare a video for presentation that will be shown on 1366 x 768 16×9 TV, via VGA/scart or S-video from laptop or DVD player.
My footage is photos, scans, 3d renders, graphics and pal video.
Question is what comp size in after effects I should use to get the best looking picture?

VGA can have a much higher resolution than DVD or S-Video. VGA is, in effect a computer monitor; it depends on the quality of the video card in the laptop. Of course, if he’s going through some sort of VGA to SCART conversion then he’s back to standard def.

    That’s not really the question.
The problem you will have is finding a codec, that will run on a player, that will run that movie for you, on your PC, from the hard drive, through your graphics card, and out to the monitor or projection system.

But you can easily specify those precise composition dimensions for your AE project.

Caution: HD and 3D-HD require huge rendering times. And you will need to transcode to your player codec. Give yourslef LOTS of time to develop and test your output workflow BEFORE you start production. And, I strongly suggest, you have a standard definition backup copy or DVD ready to go, just in case.
