    Hi,

Can someone please tell me what Preroll is or does? Specifically the Preroll on the General Tab in the Capture Preferences.

It is set to 5 seconds by default. What might happen if I change it? Why might someone want to change it?

I’ve looked in the help file and found nothing, ditto a search of this forum.

    Many thanks,

    Guy

Preroll is only used if you’re batch capturing.
The tape goes to the selected in point and then backs the tape up 5 sec. (the preroll) to ensure proper picture lockup by the time the edit point is reached.
Note that this requires at least 5 sec. of continuous time code before the edit point to work properly.
Also note that batch capture only works if tape timecode is continuous from the start of the tape to the end.
i.e. no timecode breaks where it resets to 00:00:00:00 as this will throw everything off.
