prepping drive for FCP project?
Posted by Winnie Cheung on August 26, 2009 at 7:14 pmI’m an Avid assistant editor prepping a drive for an FCP project to send to an editor for the first time. Is there anything else that should be on the drive besides the FCP project and capture scratch folder? Thank you!

Winnie,
The drive you are prepping is typically called the “media drive,” and for good reason, because that’s what goes there. The FCP project file should not go on that drive, it should reside on the system drive.
Do you know to format the drive as Mac Extended?

Oh, so that’s why you want to put the project file onboard.
Your best bet is always to use the Media Manager “copy” function for that purpose. It copies all necessary files from the present job to a specified hard drive and creates a new project and copies that to the hard drive as well. And, no relinking is necessary.
