So the day has finally come where I completely ditch Final Cut Pro for Adobe suite, as iMovie Pro no way appeals to me. I have been on Apple and there jazz since 2006 purely because of FCP, and I even was a contractor with an Apple 3rd party company that specialized in edit suites, storage and such. But as I also don’t like how Apple has abandoned there professional market, I am here to explore whether or not I should switch more than just software.

I built PCs and did networking through windows while in high school but that was 9 years ago, and that was back with XP. What would I need to be able to do this?

I have an edit bay set up that runs into a USB powered mixer, a second monitor, and a VGA run TV as well. I am going to keep the edit suite offline (with the exception of Adobe and other software updates) and still use my Apple laptop for that (yay FAT16). I will also be upgrading from CS4 to the current Adobe video suite at the time, and I have only used PS and AE so far. Premiere will be a bit of a curve. I also use Blender a bit (though I think the newer AE fills a lot of what I do with that) and would probably be using Audition on the edit suite, while still recording and such with Pro Tools on my lapton.

I am basically looking for any kind of advice with this. What kind of hardware would I require to run this fairly well? I can always arrange a custom machine, but are there other PC manufacturers out there that would be better than that option? I understand I need to change over the file type for most of my work drives. Are there any other problems I can anticipate? Which version of Windows should I be getting for this?

Any and all help is appreciated, and thank you for it. I am probably going to hold off on the transition until after Spring 2013, as Apple is going to try to release another Pro computer. But there are significant advantages to upgrading and managing PCs that I am aware of and am thinking about going to.

    John,

Posted my 2 cents in the other thread with the same question. Perhaps it’s best to keep the discussion in just one thread.
