  • Preparing project for edit in FCPX and do color grading in Resolve

Posted by Sachin Desai on July 13, 2015 at 6:42 am

I need to edit red footage and some part is shot on Canon 1DC

I need to edit the film of about 2hrs and 20 min. long and need to colour grad it in resolve and deliver in dpx format.

this is my first time for this long project in RED dragon 5K 4:1 reduced so I am wondering what should be the proper workflow for this project.

should i import footage in media pool and than transcode media for edit in FCPX from resolve and come back to do colour correction and deliver

or i should edit the forte in FCPX with proxies and than bring it to resolve and do colour grad and final delivery.

    please advice….

    thanks

You could think about cutting the show in Resolve….

But transcoding from Resolve to some sort of LT codec would make the edit “nimbler” in Final Cut, and you would have pre-established the Media database already in Resolve, so you are only using FCPX as an intermediary application to generate an EDL or XML.

Depends on how complex the edit will be — if its a long-form cuts format with a few titles, almost not worth the bother to leave Resolve.
