Premir Pro CS3 and WIN Vista 64 bit
Posted by Paul Thurston on March 30, 2007 at 5:06 pmHi,
I read that a Software engineer from Adobe had publicly explained that CS3 would actually work quite well in Windows Vista 64 bit version even though CS3 was only intended, in the PC side, for Win XP and Vista 32 bit.
Has anybody tried installing CS3 in Vista 64 bit? Does it work as advertised in Vista 64 bit?

March 30, 2007 at 6:10 pm32 bits and 64bits are actually about the same as far as software goes. If the software doesn’t support 64bits, then it will run in 32 bits. The only issue you can run into is when the software isn’t approved (signed) by MS, because the 64 bits version won’t let you install it. There are workarounds, but it’s a pain…
I am now running the current production suite on a Vista Ultimate machine (64 bits) without any real issues, so I’m confident CS3 will be fine. As Steve already stated earlier, I doubt you will get any answers from beta testers who are under confidentiality agreements.

March 30, 2007 at 6:16 pmI’m running PPro 2 on a 64-bit XP platform, and it works like a charm. A lot of the memory issues with large projects (like mine) seem to have gone away. Whether or not CS3 will on Vista 64 or not, who knows.

March 30, 2007 at 6:42 pmThey sure seem to have gone away on Vista 64 as well with the current production suite. Most of the projects I’ve thrown at it (including HDV) seem to cap at around 1.6 Gigs. Vista Ultimate BTW, takes about 500 Megs of that.

March 31, 2007 at 6:32 pmSo what you guys are saying is that at least CS2 works REALLY well in 64 bit OS’ such as WIN XP 64 bit and WIN Vista 64 bit (Ultimate?)
Wow.
Hey Vincent, when you were saying that in Vista 64 your projects cap at 1.6 Gigs, what does that actually mean? Are you talking about RAM or something else?
AND
How much RAM did you actually install in your 64 bit computer system?
Also, Bill, how much RAM did you install in your WIN XP 64 system?

April 1, 2007 at 4:02 amThis is actually on a laptop, 2 Gigs of RAM installed, and the RAM consumption doesn’t really go much over 1 and a half Gigs, even with a fairly involved project.
Of course, I wouldn’t recommend installing PP2 on Vista. This particular laptop came with Vista Ultimate, and I couldn’t use some of its main features with XP, but other than for a couple of minor issues, everything has been running smoothly; your mileage might vary here…
