I have been having issues with Premiere Pro CS5 all of the sudden. I have encoded videos in MPEG previously without issue, but this last week I have run into a problem! No matter what project I use…I have export issues. Once or twice in the video, it will drop audio (for about half a second) and then it jumps back probably a second. It appears as a quick little jitter in the video. I have tried multiple settings, including the lowest quality I could find.

My settings I am wanting to work are:
    VBR (2 Pass)
    Min: 7
    Target: 8
    Max: 9
    Multiplexing: Mpeg
    Bitrate Type: Constant
(everything else related to bitrate buffer are default)
    Resolution: 720 x 480
    Quality: 5 (max)
    29.97 fps drop-frame
    Field Order: None (Progressive)
    Aspect Ratio: 16:9
    Profile and Level at Main
Render at Maximum Depth: Off (I get weird vertical lines)
GOP and Advanced are all default (default by NTSC)
Audio is default, except I have it set for 384 kbs. (I have tried 320kbs…same issue)
    Use Maximum Render Quality: On
    Frameblending: On
    Use Previews: On

I have tried so many different things. I even uninstalled my entire adobe setup and reinstalled. Still no avail. It doesn’t occur with any other file format (that I have noticed). It also happens in multiple media players, so it is definitely something in the CS5 program.

Can any of you shed any light on this issue?

If its for dvd uncheck mulitplexing.
    Use Max Render Quality.
Weird vertical lines: if you have a Nvidia card change the 3D settings to “Let the 3D application decide”.

    It is an ATI card.

Yes, I am using Maximum Render Quality. [it is Maximum Depth that will cause the lines]

I tried the DVD setting under the multiplexer tab and I got the same result. If it makes a difference, the places that it will jitter at changes every time I encode.

When I shut off the multiplexer (set to none) the audio/video didn’t jitter. However, Windows Media Player playback had no audio. Media Player Classic was the only player that made use of audio. This I will not use…as compatibility is definitely a much needed thing.

Turn frameblending and preview files off.

Tried but to no avail. Still ending up with the issue.

I have isolated the problem. It isn’t premiere or the encoder, it is Microsoft making crappy codecs.

I installed VLC, AVS Media Player, and a Media Player Classic update…it works in all of them. (My first media player classic was using my systems default codecs)

It is just windows media player, or whatever else is using WMP’s codecs. It happens on both the XP and 7 OS’s i have tried. Ubuntu…no issue, as it uses diff codecs.

It must be something to do with the mutliplexer in Premiere. I am going to reinstall one more time, just to be sure.

Alright…tried what I said in the above post. Issue remains.

It isn’t premiere per-say. This issue happens on both my laptop and desktop (when i export).

It has something to do with the multiplexing. Again though, if I set it to none the problem goes away, but I am left with no audio in WMP (other programs have audio).

I feel it is safe to say that either adobe needs to come out with an update for premiere or microsoft with a better codec.

But, just to make sure. Have you been able to save with mpeg (in cs5) properly?
