    Hey All,

I’ve been searching around and I haven’t been able to find an answer to this one.

First off here is my setup:
Mac Pro Tower Quad Core Intel, 8gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2600 graphics card
    1 LCD computer monitor
2nd monitor is a Samsung HDtv connected to the 2nd monitor port
    Premiere Pro 3.2

In the “about this mac” panel the 2nd monitor is recognized and is running at 1920 X 1080 59.9 Hertz (any other hertz rating and the TV won’t display the desktop – maybe this is the issue??)

Anyway – the mac has no problem with it as the 2nd monitor. Final Cut Pro has no problem with it as the 2nd monitor for video playback (full screen video). But When I go to playback settings in CS3, and click the drop down box for external device it isn’t even listed. All it has is none, or DV 720 X 480.

Any ideas out there? I’m working with 1080i footage from an EX1, and have the project set up as such.

I have Premiere CS3 set up on a PC (with two monitors) right next to this Mac, and when I go to external device (on the PC)for video playback the 2nd monitor appears in the drop down box. When I work on HD projects on the PC and select the 2nd monitor as video playback it works without a problem (although it’s not ideal since it is a 4:3 monitor)

Is this a difference between the Mac and PC versions of Premiere?

Has anyone out there working on a Mac been able to use a 2nd monitor for video playback?

On the PC side in SD DV mode, Premiere cannot truly use the second monitor expect to extend Premiere’s GUI. The settings you reference are for firewire output of the program window which can be displayed on a third monitor/TV.

That said, you could extend Premiere’s GUI to your second monitor and then hover your mouse over the Program window and press the Tildie key to expand playback to full screen.
