I’m an FCP person who recently got Production Premium Suite because I wanted to learn After Effects and I wanted to have photoshop and illustrator as well as some of the other tools. I decided to check out Premier and it’s nowhere as good as FCP. Maybe if that’s all you’ve used…or you’re a PC person…it might be awesome! But FCP is the broadcast standard (that and Avid) and you’ve spent all that time learning FCP, why would you wanna start from scratch?
I’m on this forum because I have a client who uses Premiere and wants to do some editing, then send me what they’ve finished so that I can finish for broadcast and deliver it. It’s a mess! And noone seems to have any answers. He can’t even seem to output a simple DVCPRO HD file to send me. Too many weird things going on and even the guys at adobe can’t seem to come up with anything. After several test clips, I think I’ve come up with a workflow, but it takes extra steps and it’s a pain.
Final Cut WORKS and many professionals use it….even for Hollywood films. Even looking at these boards, you’ll see that there’s not a lot of pros on here answering questions. If you look at the FCP board, lots of answers! To me, that shows that it’s more prolific in the biz.
Now…I’m not slamming Adobe products OR Premiere! I love the suite and am dying to get proficient on After Effects as well PS and AI! And Premiere looks slick. But after opening it up a couple times and looking around, I’ll take FCP ANY DAY!
After all your learning on the NLE you already have, why go back and re-learn everything? That said, I bought the while suite, legit…but without manuals and box (you do get the DVD box, discs, and real/upgradeable serial)…for $790! Royaldiscount.com. Just search around on there. Manuals and tutorials are free all over the web!
That’s all I got man 🙂 Hope it helps. Sorry for typ-o’s. Posting from iPhone.
