so i did a replace with ae comp, went into ae did my thing and chose Create Proxy, saved and closed, went back to Premiere and happily continued until i was finished.
I then sent my sequence off to Media Encoder to render out the final.

But, my final movie has in the middle of it a very low quality clip. Its the proxy!
I assumed Premiere would know to not use the proxy.

Can anyone tell me what i missed? Do i have to disable proxies in AE before rendering out the premiere final (surely not, that would be a serious design flaw!).

    ANy pointers appreciated.

[Jonny Webb] “so i did a replace with ae comp, went into ae did my thing and chose Create Proxy, saved and closed, went back to Premiere and happily continued until i was finished.”

Actually, you should create the proxy before you “do your thing.” That is the reason behind creating a proxy-smoother workflow. After you’ve perfected your comp, click the proxy indicator (a box) to the left of the footage item. Once it is hollow, you can resave the AE comp and all will update in Premiere Pro. You can then export from Premiere Pro with the original footage rather than the proxy from After Effects.

You can also have After Effects stop using the proxy file. Select the item, and then choose File > Set Proxy > None.

    Thanks for the reply.
I’ve now learnt that i should not use proxies for motion tracking. It makes sense, but it totally sucks, as thats what i’m doing!

And i guess i turn off all proxies and render out on Best Settings – Lossless when i’m finished.
I say ‘guess’ as all the videos i’ve seen just breeze over this last step with the ‘everyone knows this’ attitude. Unfortunately i dont and i’m still looking for the answer…
