Premiere Titler Sluggish and Laggy

Hi,
Have not experienced this before. Am just working on rolling credits for the end of a short film and the Premiere Titler is killing me. It takes an age to load then is incredibly laggy to the point where it is difficult to work with. For example if I type a letter, there is a good 2-3 second delay before it shows on screen, if I try and move the text box it won’t appear to move then when I let go of the mouse button it takes again 3-5 seconds to move, this makes any kind of accuracy impossible.

Has anyone ever had this problem before? My system is not high spec but has handled editing and rendering the film(shot RED 4K) fine, so I would have thought a fairly simple credit roll would be fine also.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated,

What version of Premiere Pro? Have you installed the most recent updates ( https://adobe.ly/lsrkmJ )? What operating system? What other software are you running? Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed? Tell us about your computer hardware. Are you using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration?

Hi Todd,
Thanks for your reply. I have narrowed it down to the fonts I was using in the particular title. They are free fonts I downloaded and seem to be the problem. If I create a title with a more standard font it operates fine with no lag.

So any idea’s what would make a font so difficult for the titler to work with?

To answer your questions, yes I have updated. I am running CS5 on Windows 7 64bit. I am not using mercury playback. System specs are average but haven’t had any problems until now.

4Gb ddr3

Fonts are like any other software. Some are badly written and can cause all sorts of problems (including crashes). Beware and treat them the way that you would treat any other software. I presume that free fonts are malware—no better than any virus-infected freebie downloaded from the web—unless I have reason to trust the source.
