  • Premiere Pro vs Quicktime – Does someone have Adobe’s ear?

I’ve done my darnedest, short of reformatting and reinstalling everything, to get back to Quicktime 6.5 because QT7 bollixed up compatibilities with a number of Adobe products.

Does someone have Adobe’s ear on this?

I found (by dumb luck) an article from Apple that stated:

    “New QuickTime DLL
To allow for compatability with applications which rely on the presence of QuickTime in the old

    \Windows\System32\QuickTime

directory, QuickTime 7 will install a DLL file for purposes of backward compatibility named QuickTime.qts to this same directory. This file will do the work of finding the new QuickTime file locations forapplications that explicitly look in the old location…”

Betcha anything this is the problem.

What we need is a bug fix from Adobe and not a dll fix from Apple.

Apple changed it, not Adobe. How can it be Adobe’s fault? Plus, Premiere Pro 1.5.1 came out before Quicktime 7 was out of beta.

It’s not Adobe’s FAULT, but Adobe can more directly address the issue of Adobe’s programs being hardwired to look for QT where they’re used to finding it.

Apple’s “here’s where to find it nowadays” dll just doesn’t clue Adobe programs in correctly, and Apple (miserable so-and-so’s) does warn not to depend on that redirect.

I do have a solution, posted above.

try this, it should work… worked on a computer in my office that someone “accidently” upgraded to QT 7 that was running Avid Xpress Pro:

    What exactly is the problem?

I have QT 7 installed and haven’t noticed an issue…but maybe I haven’t done the correct thing to make it known…

I am running 7.0.3 and have no issues with Pro importing QT files.

I installed QT 7 – and PPro, Photoshop 7 and Premiere 6.5 all came up as unregistered, and could not be re-installed properly until QT 7 was uninstalled.
So much for making those i-pod videos!

As I said eariler in my post, I have not had any problem with Quicktime Pro 7.03 and I have using it since it was released as a beta. Could you provide us with more details? Any system software running in the background? Other applications?
