  • Premiere Pro still losing renders (of dynamic linked AE projects)

This has been on ongoing problem with PrP since I started using it in CS5 on both the Mac & PC platforms.. Its a shame it hasnt been fixed yet. Its a large source of frustration and embarrassment.

I created a dynamically linked clip in PrP and after finishing the AE comp I saved in both AE then PrP it last night. I come in this morning and the render is gone. I go to the preview files folder and there they are.

I feel confindent this is a software issue. My system has been optizmized by ADK for performance with CS6. This is intermittent but occurs with some regularity.

Ive made many bug reports in the past with no response so unless I am personally contacted Im not going to waste my time. As a beta tester I got a sense of how issues are dealt with so I have no unrealistic expectations about this one since its been around for a while.

I second all that Tom and have made bug reports and posts. Since the Adobe way is to compartmentalise functions into separate apps, probably for historical reasons, linking becomes crucial to any meaningful workflow, which Adobe recognised with the Dynamic Link protocol. Coming from Pro Tools, which in the bad old days used to strew files everywhere, Digidesign (long before Avid,) solved the problem by linking files to the session with a buried very long unique number. Nothing ever went missing again even when transferring very large files sets between studios.
Thinking about the Dynamic Link Protocol, maybe we could get Tom Cruise on the case…..

Cleaned all the caches and saved the project. 2 hours later opened the project and 1 out of 4 rendered DL AE preview files were not found by PrP. I found it right in the folder where it should be. Each time this happened over the last few days it lost a different file.

Things like this will really hamper CS 6 acceptance into the professional community. Losing renders is real bush league.

    Hey Tom…

not to harp on discussion of the past…

but would my “Set Proxy” AE workflow help at all?

Even if you lose the render in PPro…it would be nothing to regenerate again at that point.

Again…I’m not suggesting you should HAVE to work this way….I’m just offering it as an option so you can recover more quickly in front of your clients…

    Hi Alex,

No problem. I do appreciate you reminding me of that work flow. And actually the similar work flow I generally use avoids this issue.

I was just hoping in 6.03 this issue had been resolved and I got caught in a deadline which added to my annoyance.

Our workarounds are good. Someday it wont intermittently lose the renders and we wont need to resort to them. 😀

Thanks Alex – I usually render as a workaround but didn’t know the proxy trick.
