  • Premiere Pro renders opacity differently?

I’m noticing that in Premiere, colors seem to render differently at lower opacities than in other programs. The image attached shows what an image with pure red, blue, and green colors looks like at 50% opacity on top of pure white. Premiere renders the colors differently than in After Effects, Photoshop, or any other program (not as vibrant). Color difference is evident in preview monitor, and also in final rendered videos. This difference only appears with lower opacity; at 100%, colors match.

Perhaps of interest to note is that if I take the video layers in Premiere (the RBG layer on top of the white), and group that into an After Effects composition, it will then show the ‘proper’ color. My best guess is this is something to do with color space or management in Premiere? Or just the way it deals with opacity? I’m assuming this doesn’t have to the with my monitor calibration settings, seeing as the color difference is immediate on the same monitor, even in the same program at times.

When you are comparing the two applications, is one using linear light and the other not? The sequence settings in Premiere Pro is where you can switch that on/off.

Ah. I was not familiar with the linear color setting. Good to know, that solves my issue. Thanks. This was much better than trying to Google the issue.
