I have migrated from Velocity to Final Cut Pro. I did have Premiere Pro on a PC but had the department shut down after 24 years. A lot of jobs I see now are either FCP or Premiere. I have an Intel Mac at home. If I want to get my chops back up on Premiere what package do I get and do I run it on the Mac side with FCP? ..or PC side of the MAC.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

I moved to a MacPro tower this summer and for a nominal fee Adobe sent me the Mac version of the Master Suite (to replace my PC version) which includes Premiere CS3 and it installed fine on the Mac Leopard side. I use Sony EX1 footage and it edits it fine.

The only issue I have had is that I also have a Matrox MXO/Apple Cinema combo for accurate colour display and it will not play EX1 footage back unless I disable the playback window in Premiere but FCP also has problems with EX1 footage.

I would recommend holding fire for a few more weeks and waiting for the release of Adobe CS4, as this will be the second iteration of the current Mac compatible Premier Pro and is reported to be a much more integrated solution. However, CS3 is no slouch and made a welcome return for Premier on the Mac.

Whatever route you choose I would advise running the native Mac version – even Adobe commented on how well Premier runs on a Mac in comparison to the PC. Although I myself am a PC user, I would refit our PC gear with Mac hardware like a shot if I could warrant the outlay – far fewer “unknowns” in hardware conflicts and a much more efficient OS, in my opinion.

Hope you have a pleasant return to Premier.
