I use Premiere Pro 2.0 and every time I cut a section of video with the razor blade icon, when I go to the Edit Cut menu, it will lock up the program and I get the Insert icon and in the lower left corner above the Start button it will say something like “Insert to overwrite and hold Control to insert” so I can’t do any editing without the program locking up for about a minute, then it lets me do whatever I was doing. It also takes a long time to save, I know a lot of it isn’t rendered yet, but I don’t remember it taking this long to save the project (It’s about an hour and a half long right now). I recently defragged the computer, but it just keeps locking up each time I do an edit.

Customer to car dealer: “My car does not start, can you help me?”

Car dealer: “Sure, but you have to tell me what car you drive”

Customer: “One with 4 tires and a steering wheel”

Car dealer: “That does not tell me enough to help you..”

Customer: “What more do you want to know? I thought you were a pro”

Car dealer: “We are pro’s and therefore require more relevant information to help you”

    Get the intention….???

Yes, some system specs would help as well as the location of source video and scratch disks (what hard drives).
Also what size is your Project file (.prproj)?.

Here is the relevant info on the desktop I use to edit on
Intel Pentium D Processor 830, 3GHz; 500GB 7200rpm Hard Drive; 1GB (512MB x 2) PC2-4200 DDR2 Memory; DVD+R Double Layer / DVDRW Drive; DVD-ROM Drive; Giga Pocket MPEG2 Encoder board with TV Tuner; Memory Stick Reader, Compact Flash Type I and Type II, xD Picture Card and SD/MultiMediaCard; Wireless Keyboard, Wireless Mouse; 5.1 Channel Speakers; Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

My Scratch Disk and Cache are both on my 2nd internal HD J:\ which has 13.4 GB left on it (this movie is 2 and a half hours). However I had the same problem with my previous project that was on C:\. I was almost done with that one when this issue first arouse last week, so I just put up with it to get finished, but now it is happening again. Each time I do a cut, it locks and gives me the icon of the razor blade which I’d just clicked on, but it won’t let me change back to the arrow icon, and above the start button it says “Click to split clip into two, Alt overrides a link, shift for all tracks” and it stays like that and won’t let me do anything else, even change from the razor to the arrow pointer icon. After about a minute, it releases and I can work again. It will sometimes not respond and I have to exit and restart.
