I want to show video on an external hdmi monitor which I’ve been doing in final cut 7 for years. Don’t seem to get able to do this on PrPro CC. I can mirror the entire interface but can’t display output video. Do I need an interface? Didn’t with fcp7.

Go to Edit>Preferences>Playback and choose the external monitor you want to use. I think you have to check the Enable Mercury Transmit box as well.

If you want a visual or video tutorial you could start watching at 6:40 to 7:40.
