    Hi

I have an annoying problem on CS6. When I have an open timeline in PPro, if I have a clip and “replace with after effects composition” everything is all fine, it renders fine and plays back perfectly but when I add it to the PPro timeline it seems to play with dropped frames (black frames at least) and I have no idea why!

I am rendering using the Cineform codec and if I choose lossless in AE it renders with big grey/green chunks on the footage.

All very odd, any idea what it could be?

    What doesn’t play fine?

The “replace comp” in the timeline?

OR the file you rendered from AE?

Sorry…the post is a little unclear.

    I will help if I can…

The AE rendered AVI file plays fine in a normal media player (media player classic)but when added to the PPro timeline it plays with what I can only assume are dropped frames, when I go back to the AE Rendered AVI and play in media player again, it suddenly starts freezing at the point the first dropped frame appears on the copy of the file in the timeline.

    Does that make sense?

    hmmm….

    that is quite puzzling….

are your render resolution settings in AE identical to your PPro setup?

what drive is your scratch disk set to?

Yeah the res settings are the same and the scratch disk is a 3TB ext Hdd that the rendered files are stored upon. Strange isn’t it!

This issue is still occuring and I’m presuming it must be a PPro issue.

Just to re-iterate here is the flow of the problem…

    1. Select PPro Clip in Timeline
    2. Right click > Replace with after effects composition
    3. Edit clip in After Effects
    4. In PPro click Edit > Undo so as not to replace clip
    5. Render out AE project as Cineform AVI to 3TB USB 3.0 Ext. Harddrive
    6. Check clip (works fine)
    7. Select AE Project and layer on top of original clip in PPro
    8. Check clip in timeline > Plays back with black frames
    9. Check Rendered AE Project > Now freezes when first black frame appears on clip in PPro

Please, can anyone help? This driving me insane!

16GB RAM, Intel i7, Windows 7 Ultimate, 500GB Harddrive, all clips saved to 3TB USB 3.0 Ext. Harddrive.

I have run After Effects and Premiere in various guises for years and never suffered this problem before.
