I’ve been using Premiere Pro for some time and like it. I am wondering what would be the workflow if I’m using it for my editor but want to do my Color Correction in Resolve?

I saw the demo at NAB in Vegas and was quite impressed but have only used programs like Red Giant Looks(as a plugin in the app) which is cool and convenient but there were times when I had only an area that was blown out that I wish I could have selected to bring those highlights down without effecting the whole layer or for say a sky effect etc. Also didn’t seem as flexible for shots that were not static and had movement but still needed the correction in a certain area. It seemed tricky to not possible. Does this sound like the tool I was hoping for these types of shots.

Anyway Thanks for checking out my post. Any direction or suggestions would be appreciated.

Using an EDL from Premiere should work. It sounds like XML support is on it’s way too.

    Thanks for the response Illya.

I’m wondering has anyone tried using an EDL from Premiere with Resolve yet? Any issues to report back?

Premiere Pro CS5 is my editor of choice so I’d like to know if there are any issues before making an investment in Resolve.

    Hey there,

well, i can only share my experience from working with Scratch and I noticed Premiere has problems making good EDLs.
For example, when you change the content of a container on your timeline, with new media, Premiere still calls it by the old name and your EDLs will not work but point to the old footage.
Then we had problems with its accuracy when the material was captured into Premiere directly for offline editing and tried to export a capture EDL for the Blurefish 4444 card to do the online.
So I think Resolve will be fine…Premiere…well, its Adobe 😉

This is exactly the kind of feedback I’m looking for. Man that doesn’t sound good.

So does anyone run Premiere Pro CS5 who can test this workflow to confirm there will be issues trying to take an EDL from P.Pro to Resolve…?!

Thanks for sharing the issues you’ve experienced with Adobe Premiere Pro EDL…!

I’m in contact with a guy who’s got Avid and Premiere. We’re going to make a test for AAF and EDL from both apps. At least he said he can make AAF and EDL from both.

The editor couldn’t export EDL nor AAF from the trial of Avid, so I got those only from Premiere. The problem was that he had shortened down three clips and exported as new clips, thus not giving them any time code. So when I imported the EDL and AAF, DaVinci was confused about what clip should be where.

It’s an easy fix. Conflicting clips (mentioned in another thread I made) can be Resolved by choosing the correct clip from a list.

The test did was not a success as I had hoped. But it’s a given that the media files should have proper timecode !
