  • Premiere Pro CS5 – Tiffen Dfx v2 – won’t load

Posted by Ken Sonvico on January 18, 2011 at 10:15 pm

I purchased Tiffen Dfx v2 for Premiere Pro CS5 & After Effects. The plugin is supposed to run on either app. and it runs fine in AE.
However, after copying over the Tiffen V2 folder to the Plug-ins/en-us folder in Premiere Pro (as per Tiffen’s directions), the filters don’t show up in PP effects window. After, trying some re-installs and file checking, I went to my Username account on my Mac and clicked on the Plugin Loading log and discovered that Premiere is instructed to “ignore” the filters. The exact language string is:
“No loaders recognized this plugin, so the plugin is set to Ignore”

What is this and can it be fixed.
Tiffen support was no help at all.

    Thanks in advance.

Did you install the plugins when you were logged in to your user account?

    Hey Tim,
Thanks for getting back to me. I much appreciate it.
If I understand your question correctly, then the answer is no.
I’m the only user on this machine and there’s only my admin account.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

The Tiffen filters SHOULD exist in the Media Core folders for both AE and PPro to see them…are they in the proper place?

Tiffen support (thank you) pointed me to a link on the Adobe forum that has a tutorial to correct this “ignore plugin” anomaly in the Windows registry.
It involves hacking the registry and changing the value in the “ignore” string to a 0 from a 1, which I’m very comfortable in doing.
However, I’m on a Mac and I don’t see the equivalent string in the library/preferences pane on a Mac.
Is there someplace else to look?
Where is the “registry” on a Mac?

    Thanks again in advance.

    Hey Tim,
I placed them in the media core folder at first, as is my normal protocol, but when that didn’t work, I found a the help file on Tiffen’s site that instructed me to move the file locally into the Premiere Pro plugins folder in the Premiere Pro package contents.

    • Navigate to /Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CS3/4/5.
    • Right-click (Ctrl-click if you don’t have a right mouse button) on the Adobe Premiere Pro CS3/4/5 file and select Show Package Contents.
    • When the window pops-up, go to /Contents/Plug-ins/en_US.
    • Drag the Tiffen Dfx v2.0 folder that you installed to your Desktop into the /Contents/Plug-ins/en_US folder.

FIXED the “ignore plugin” problem. Got the Dfx plugis to load.
    How it was done:

I went into the library/preferences pane under my user account and located with the “text wrangler” utility changed all of the ignore strings from 1 to 0s in the ignore string of all: com.Adobe.SelfLink1.10.0.plist (12 sets of them).

I also took Tim’s advice and put the Tiffen Dfx folder back into the common/media core folder in the Adobe library.

However, I also left the Dfx folder in the plugins directory where Tiffen told me to put it. On launch of Premiere Pro CS5 it doesn’t report duplicates so it’s only seeing one of them.

I’m just happy to have things working.

    Thanks Tim for your assistance.
