Premiere Pro CS5 doesn’t recognize 8gb of memory ram

Hey Vince,
I go to edit>preferences>memory and it states 4gb available/2.5gb for Pro and 1.5 reserved for other applications. Windows 7 64bit does recognize my 8gb of ram. That how I discovered this situation. Once again, any help would be appreciated. Sorry for the delay in response as I just got back home. Thank you for your interest.

Adobe Premiere Pro states that I have 4gb of ram with 2.5 for PPro and 1.5 reserved for other applications. Optimize rendering is on performance. My Windows 7 64bit does recognize that I have 8gb of memory. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your interest.

Are all your RAM sticks matching in size /timing / brand?

Is this a custom built, did you configure the BIOS?

Everthing with the ram is in order: same brand, same sticks, and timing. PC home built by me. As far as the bios goes, I believe everything is default.

I just updated the latest bios. I noticed that on the windows performance index screen it states: Memory 8gb (3.99 usable). This message had not appeared before this latest bios update. I did notice that before the bios update when I used cyberlink software to burn media I noticed it to only recognized 4gb. Obviously, its pretty clear now its not an Adobe Production Premium CS5 issue. Any information on how to make all my 8gb of memory usable would be deeply appreciated. Thank you for your help and interest.

It sure sounds like a bios setting. Possibly a configuration set for a 32 bit system.

What is the brand / model of your board?

One of the few manuals I ever read (and the most boring) is the motherboard guide. Default settings almost never make for a smooth ride. At the very least, RAM voltage and timing should be set for the sticks you have in there.

Thank you for your help. I checked the bios settings and everthing seemed to be in order so I decided to shut down and take the memory modules out and re-install them in three steps 1>2>4. Fortunately, that did the trick.
Adobe Premiere Pro nows states: Installed ram 8gb. Ram for PPro 6.5gb Ram reserved for other application 1.5gb.
Now I have follow up questions. Is this configuration the best? Should more memory be dedicated to PPRo? When I use Photoshop or AfterEffects, etc… will it only have 1.5gb for use?
If you respond to the follow up questions, great. If not, thank you anyways. This is the first time I use creative cow forum and I am very impressed. Thank you.
