No, I didn’t. I did some research here and elsewhere on web and Cineform just seemed like a better fit for my needs. I tried it first and it worked…so that was that 🙂

You can download the codec from Avid https://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Download/en423319

It appears as a codec choice for the MOV container and you can encode them from Premiere, Adobe Media Encoder, or any other program that has access to Quicktime codecs.

I use it quite often between myself and editors both on Final Cut and on Avid… very versatile if you don’t mind the 1920×1080 limitation.

Yes, I downloaded it but haven’t installed yet. I’m pretty familiar with the format since we often receive DNxHD QTs from clients at work (vfx studio) for edit reference and such. One thing I like about Cineform over DNxHD on a Windows platform is that you can still export from 64bit apps that don’t support QT (since Apple still refuses to release a 64bit version of QT for Windows) such as 3ds Max and Eyeon Fusion.

One hiccup I just encountered with Cineform though is that when I try to export using the QT wrapper I get a “trail has expired” error. Not sure if this is normal. Maybe GoPro is only allowing avi saving in the “free” version of Cineform Studio codecs? Maybe it’s the opposite on Mac? Detailed info about all this is sketchy at best on their website.

On a related note…is there a size limitation for DNxHD QTs in Windows? This could be a deal breaker.

Hello All,

I just started using a BM HyperDeck Shuttle 2 and it records in uncompressed and in DNxHD.

I installed the Avid codec on my CS6 machine, but I cannot find an option to encode (media encoder) to the DNxHD codec anywhere. I looked under the QuickTime presets, etc, but nothing.

Where am I going wrong here??

Also as an aside; when using clips made with the shuttle (DNxHD 220 I believe) what Sequence Presets, or settings should I use.

Had to install the codecs manually.
Right Click Installer Package > Contents >(Extract the ‘Archive.pax.gz’) > Archive > Library >QuickTime > (Copy ALL)
then

Finder > Go > Go To Folder > (type: /System/Library/QuickTime and hit Enter) > (Paste All)

I have some old AVI videos can be opened with Premier 4 (768 x 576)
I am doing a project in Premier CS6 for HD video.
These videos only show audio part in Premier 6.
I have to come back to Premier 4 to export it to Microsoft AVI videos (720×576)
Analysing in GSpot saying: the CODEC is installed (Cinepak by Supermac )
with sugestion : Status NOT render yet. Use [2] to render.
clicking number 2: Failed to connect Output pin 0x06e03ad . . .
Is there any way to import preset or plug-in from Pr4 to Pr6, and HOW.

I do recommend converting those files to a more up to date and reliable codec (lagarith, cineform, pro res or avid’s uncompressed formats should keep em high quality but massive file sizes. No sense in keeping with a codec that Adobe probably dropped form official support.
I normally recommend not installing codecs unless needed but you might want to try downloading the latest Cinepak Codec installer(from a trusted source of course).
