Premiere Pro CS3 on a MAC and Plugin’s
Posted by Jerome a Franks on September 3, 2008 at 2:44 pmI use a lot of adobe applications on my apple. Such as Photoshop, AE, and Illustrator and I will be in the future trying to learn Dreamweaver. My friend says that they have a Dynamic Link for all of there files. My problem is I rarely if at all see any plugins on Premiere Pro on a mac. Since most plugins are for FCP. If someone can list or tell me the ones that use. I’ve already viewed the ones on adobe website but majority of those are for PC.

September 3, 2008 at 9:16 pmPPro uses the After Effects interface…most After Effects plugs work in Premiere Pro as well…and I know of very few that aren’t cross platform (PC or Mac).
Everything we have at Digieffects runs on both platforms and in Premiere Pro or After Effects…as far as I know the same is true for GenArts Sapphire, all the Red Giant plugs with a few possible exceptions…etc, etc…
I don’t know where you got the impression that most plugs are only for the PC…

September 4, 2008 at 12:28 pmYou didn’t mention a brand…
CGM appears to be one of relatively few plugin manufacturers who are focused on FCP and Apple products (and I assume FXplug interface structure) exclusively. The interfaces used at the pro-level (mid-range) include the After Effects API and in Avid…AVX and AVX2, on the higher end it’s gradually becoming OpenFX …apparently CGM has nothing that hooks into an AE interface, which would work in PPro, Autodesk Combustion, even Final Cut Pro does have compatibility for this interface, and of course, After Effects.
Maybe you could contact them and ask… They may be working on it.
Otherwise, there are too many plugin manufacturers that do support the AE interface to count… You could start looking at some other options.

September 4, 2008 at 12:44 pmSo basically its as easy as copy and paste as far as the AE plugins working in PPro. What section would I paste the plugins at.

September 5, 2008 at 12:44 amIt can be as easy as simply grabbing the plugs from the AE plugin folder and copying them to the PPro folder…
Some, like Red Giant’s Colorista for instance, has a separate version for AE or PPro…

September 5, 2008 at 1:28 pmColorista doesn’t work with PPro on the Mac. Magic Bullet Looks does work, however. My experience has been that for Premiere Pro on the Mac it is best to check carefully first to see if a given plug-in is compatible. A lot that work with AE will not work with PPro. Hopefully this will change as time passes and the program becomes more mature on the Mac platform, but for the time being it appears that most plug-in authors are focussed on Final Cut and After Effects.

September 5, 2008 at 3:21 pmI’m not aware of any overall list. You’d have to check by manufacturer. I know that in Red Giant’s case they have a page showing application compatibility.
