Premiere Pro CS3 – 24P saves as 29.971 instead despite settings?
Well when I capture footage that I recorded in 24P in Premiere CS3 with the 24P settings, I run it through GSpot and it registers as interlaced footage, how come it won’t let me save as 24P?! Arrghhh please help.

Well, unless it’s actually 24 PN (native 24P), you are actually seeing what you are supposed to. This is how pull down works, it converts 24 frame to 30 frames. Most consumer camcorders don’t actually record in native 24P, others you have to specify “PN” in the settings.
If you want my personal advice, forget 24p, it’s a marketing gimmick that many fell for over the years.

So progressive actually means interlaced on the XL2?

If thats the case would 30p be any better for that smoother look for web? Or would capturing still have the same issue?

Well, it’s not that simple. As I understand it, the chips are progressive and the footage is encoded as interlaced, but the fields are captured at the same moment in time, which means that you can treat it as progresive, and you won’t see artifacts, or lose resolution.
Does 30P look better?
It does to me, more fluid, especially on motion. 24P was all the craze for a while, but I think people are starting to see that it just doesn’t create that film look after all.

The XL2 is a DV camcorder…24p can only be accomplished by shooting as 24p and embedding the video in a 60i stream…there is no 24p DV “format” specification.
The video has a 24p “cadence” but the stream is 60i.
