    I have a quick question about the best way to composite type on a sequence. I used the Premiere Pro titler and created a couple of key frames to move it. Then I went into AE7 and create type on a blank background and applied a preset. I then exported the comp to an .avi file and placed in PP2 timeline on V4. On V1 is a motion background, on V2 is video footage with track matte of V3. I had to place a luma key on V4 for it to show through. Should I export the sequence from PP2 as an .avi and composite the type in AE7? Give me some direction. I know there are always a couple of ways to do things. Well, I guess it wasn’t a quick question. Thanks.

    If I understand you, you exported a video with a black background. You probably wanted to export it with an Alpha Channel. If so, export as Quicktime using the Animation codec, and make sure you pick Millions of Colors+ where the “+” is important. It means “plus alpha channel”.

    Or, you could save space by exporting the alpha channel separately.

    Steven,

    Thanks Steven! The loseless with alpha took care of overlaying the type on V4. One quick question about DV output from the firewire card from the computer. I have a DSR-11 hooked up to the firewire cable and an S-Video output to teh Sony CRT. No audio is following the video. The audio instead is coming out of the computer speakers. Can I switch this if I would like? Thanks.

    Steven is probable busy, and probably does not know the answer anyway so I will jump in (-;

    Project (on the menu bar)> Project Settings> General> Playback settings…
    Change to External Device Audio

    Busy? Yes. I won’t address the other issue. 😛

    But it is always nice to know that Mike is around to handle the easy ones. 😉

    Mike and Steven,

    You Guys are the best!

    Thanks!

    P.S. I have a Final Cut system at home that is networked to my PC with Video Collection Standard. I exported out of Final Cut an uncompressed .avi for importing into AE6.5 and Premiere 1.5. I edited the sequence and exported back as a Quicktime file. Am I losing quality or is this the best way to transfer footage? My version of AE on the Mac is not current and I love some of the features with PP. So I enjoy creating on both platforms. I got to say also the Clip Notes on PP2 ROCK THE HOUSE! Thanks.

    As long as you use an uncompressed Quicktime, like with the Animation codec, you should not be losing quality.

    Steven,

    Should I export QT from FCP to PP1.5? and back not .avi? What are your thoughts?

    If you want to export DV captured from a DV camera by FCP to a PC, you should put it back on a tape and recapture on the PC.

    There is no really good way to get from FCP to Premiere Pro.

    I’d have to agree that Apple gets a poor grade for playing well with others.
