SEEMS like a no-brainer, with 2014 being the logical choice, but i now have both on my computer and not sure what the diff is or even why there are two choices. Can anyone enlighten me?

thanks for helping out a bonehead!

CC 2014 is the latest version that Adobe has released. CC is the original version released with the cloud subscription model (with any updates since then, of course).

CC 2014 still seems to have some bugs in it, so I personally have stuck with the original CC for now. I’m sure some people have used CC 2014 with no issue though, so I guess it depends on if you want to be on the cutting edge and risk some bugs popping up or not.

I’ve got no issues on my personal laptop and running CC 2014.0.1:

    MacBook Pro Retina 2013
    OS X 10.8.5
    16 GB RAM
NVIDIA 650M GPU (1 GB VRAM)
    Mostly H.264 footage

If you are running OS X 10.9, update to 10.9.4.
Ensure your permissions folders are set to Read/Write as OS X can do that sometimes. See this article: https://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2014/06/permissions-mac-os-start-adobe-applications.html
Hopefully your GPU is the one with 1 GB VRAM. If not, you might want to look at a new GPU.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

CC 2014 is just the newest version, CC was released about a year earlier. I have found it to be riddled with bugs on OSX 10.8.5, so for now I am sticking with CC
