  • Premiere Pro CC Clip in AE showing blank.

Posted by Matt Hensler on November 20, 2014 at 1:24 pm

I posted this in the basic’s forum, but didn’t get a response for over a week, so I thought I would pick everyone’s brain in here.

So I’m running the latest Adobe Premiere CC (2014) and AE (2014). I selected a clip in premiere, right clicked and chose “replace with AE composition.” When AE opens and I try to create a new comp by dragging the file down to the new comp button, it shows on AE’s timeline, but nothing appears in the preview? It’s just all black.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

It’s a small video clip that I have placed on the timeline in PP CC. I select the clip, right click, and choose “Replace With After Effects Composition.” Then it loads AE. I drag the clip down to the timeline in AE, and it shows up, but in the preview screen above, it’s blank. No video when scrubbing back and forth in AE either.

I must be watching a tutorial wrong then. I want to take a trimmed clip from the premiere pro timeline and move it to AE to work on. Then save from AE and have it dynamically updated on my premiere pro timeline.

Here is a link to what I’m trying to do. This does NOT work with my latest version of Premiere Pro CC and AE CC.

Have you found an answer to this?

I am having the same issue with 2014.

I have CC installed and have used this method for a year. Now since installing CC 2014 my results are exactly the same as yours.

Let me know if you found an answer. thank you!

Unfortunately I have not found a good solution.

    My current workaround is this:
In Premiere, after selecting “Replace with After Effects…” on a clip and it opens in after effects, I then in AE have to go to ‘File – Import – File..’, then drag that file into the current composition.
From there I can see the video file and can continue using AE.
When I select save in AE the linked comp appears back in Premiere.

While it works, it is extra steps that I should not have to do.

Please let me know if you have found a solution to this issue.

    thanks!

UPDATE: a new release came out 2014.1.1 and it appears to have fixed that issue.
Not only that, overall warp stabilization is working way better.
