Premiere Pro 2017.0.2 performance problems — projects take ~12h to load
Hi All,
I’m having some confusing problems in Premiere and hope you can help.
First the stats:
Premiere Pro CC 2017.0.2
OSX 10.11.6
Mac Pro (Late 2013) 3.5GHz 6-core w/ 64GB RAM and 2x D700
Shared storage on 12-bay QNAP NAS mounted as SMB over 10GbE via Sonnet Duo Thunderbolt Bridge (R/W ~700MB/s)
Scratch on local thunderbolt RAIDI’ve been happily editing on this system for 2 years and with the NAS storage for the past 8 months. In the last two weeks however it’s all gone to hell, with my projects taking forever to load and very poor playback performance. For instance, I’ve just set up a new project for a client for a doc feature, which contains a lot of media, but not more than I’ve had in previous projects. However, in this case, it takes over 12 hours to read in all the media on opening the project. Each file can take 30 seconds or more to load. I’ve tried clearing all my caches, which doesn’t seem to affect the project opening performance, other than making it re-write all the metadata. And in the bar at bottom left of the screen where it lists the files, I get ridiculous file paths with repeating nonsense directories like this:
Loaded /Volumes/STACK2/CALICO/01 FOOTAGE/05-08-2015/Lori Rosa interview/sound wireless/Lori Rosa interview/05-08-2015/walton school/1/walton school/2/walton school/3/walton school/05-08-2015/01 FOOTAGE/05-23-2015 cemetery/video/05-23-2015 cemetery/01 FOOTAGE/05-24-2015 establishing shots Dingle Hill/4K/05-24-2015 establishing shots Dingle Hill/pocket/05-24-2015 establishing shots Dingle Hill/01 FOOTAGE/05-25-2015/andes hotel andy 05-25-2015/05-25-2015/cemetery 2 05-25-2015/05-25-2015/parade 1 05-25-2015/ars__1_2015-05-15_0540_C004.mov
The actual path of this file is:
/Volumes/STACK2/CALICO/01 FOOTAGE/05-25-2015/andes hotel andy 05-25-2015/ars_1_2015-05-15_1350_C0004.movI would be tempted to blame it on the large and complicated project, but I’m having similar problems with a much smaller project too. Any thoughts on what might be going on and how I can fix it???
Many thanks in advance for your help,
Joe
