Thanks in advance for reading. I’m helping one of my co-workers diagnose an issue he’s seeing with Premiere Pro 2.0. We are running a Pentium-based PC system with pleny of RAM, and storage space, and a good fast processor. (We cut video on this machine all the time with no trouble – this is also a behavior that we’re seeing on more than one system, and all the systems are usually fine – it seems to be within the project).

Here is the issue: When we hit play or space bar in the timeline, there is about a 15 second lag before the video actually starts. Its as though the computer, or the software is thinking extra hard to find that point from which to play.

This may be more of a general editing question than a Premiere specific question, but since we’re using Premiere, I thought I’d start here.

    Thanks for your help.

I have heard about similar problems from people using subclips from long master clips. Is that the case for you? If so, try exporting out the subclip to a new DV AVI and then replace the subclip. That should help.

Yes. That is indeed the case. It goes against the way I personally cut, but this co-worker of mine is very into long clips with subclips. I’ll pass that along.

    Thanks for your answer.

    Hey Steve…

Would you say that this behavior is tied to Subclips or just short clip markings from long capture files?

It applies to clip whose duration is greater than one hour.

Try the playback settings tab in the general settings window of the project settings pulldown screen. The third checkbox from the top is HD colorspace. Uncheck this box if it is checked and try your timeline playback again. I was editing footage from a JVC HD10 and this solved the problem. Larry1

    Hi,

I am having the same problems using subclips. I’ve torn my machine apart trying to remedy this, but I think it’s an Adobe problem. My machine is fast enough to edit HD. I have some clips that are over an hour and some that are 30 min, but the 15 second wait for playback sucks. Also, I downconverted from HDV to DV and have this problem.
