    Hi there,

Premiere Pro 2.0 crashes when I try to import some AVI video files. It’s consistent in terms of which files make PPro crash and which don’t. The wierd thing is this: the files which make PPro crash on my workstation don’t make PPro crash on my laptop (I have PPro installed on both my workstation and my laptop).

I’ve tried uninstalling PPro on my workstation and re-installing it but that didn’t help. Please – does anyone have any tips at all?

I’ve looked in Windows Event Viewer and it looks like the AdobeLM service quits when PPro crashes – is that of any interest?

I’m about out of ideas except for re-installing WinXP on my workstation (which I don’t particularly want to do beause I’m in the middle of a project!)

    Many thanks,
    Jack

    Hi,

Just to add a little more info:

I’m running Win XP Pro SP2 with Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 on both my laptop and my workstation. The video which causes PPro to crash was captured using Serious Magic’s DV Rack. The video plays back fine on PPro on my laptop and it plays back fine on my desktop using any other media player like Windows Media Player.

I’ve even tried importing a media file into a PPro project on my laptop (which works fine) and then opening that PPro project on my workstation. The result is that PPro crashes instantly.

I’ve also tried taking a screen shot just before PPro crashes but I haven’t found any useful error messages.

Adobe After Effects 7 and Adobe Bridge both playback the videos fine on my workstation. It’s just PPro that crashes.

What kind of Avi? In general, it has to do with the codec of that avi. How do you get the avi in the first place? Did you use a specific hardware card or software to get that avi?

    Hi there,

Many thanks for your reply. They are DV AVIs captured using DV Rack from a Panasonic DVX100a running in 25p mode. The wierd thing is that PPro (running on my laptop) will open these AVIs but PPro on my Desktop crashes!

    Many thanks,
    Jack

Is DV Rack installed on your desktop station?

    Hi there,

No, DV Rack isn’t installed on my workstation. But the wierd thing is that PPro (on my workstation) does open *some* of the files captured on my laptop using DV Rack. And every other video application (e.g. AE, Windows Media Player, VLC, Adobe Bridge) on my workstation can open all the files.

I’m re-installed WinXP and PPro on my workstation at the moment…

    Thanks,
    Jack

    Hi again,

I have now re-installed WinXP and PPro and it works perfectly again. Thank goodness for that! It’s nice working with a fresh install of XP – everything’s nice and responsive again!
