November 26, 2006 at 6:30 amYou have tried to start PPro 2 with more than one project, or as if you are going to start a new project, right?
…we’re not talking about a corrupt project are we?

November 26, 2006 at 6:42 pmIt sounds like the problem is that he can’t even get to the screen to load a project or start a new project. When the initial splash screen comes up, and initializes all the plugins, that’s where it’s crashing. Before the program even really starts.

Actually he said it hangs when he sees what he later said was the last plugin to load…which can mean the next thing in the progression is crashing it…which would be when it gets a look at the project file.
The last thing you see on the screen may not be the problem, or you may not even see an acknowledgement of the load…chances are very good that it’s the next procedure that’s taking it down as it starts that next step…even if he isn’t loading the project, that project still comes up in the recent projects panel.
Anyway, I still think that a bad project needs to be disqualified first.
If it hasn’t been done already, I would recommend renaming the project (remember what it WAS called of course so it can be changed back), and then try to launch. At least this would eliminate a bad project from consideration.

This is in fact the case. It is displaying the last ‘successful’ load.
Look for “Plugin Loading.log” in a Premiere 2.0 folder on your system drive and open it in notepad. You will see from the ‘Write_on.AEX’ onwards …
————————————————————————–
Loading C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0\Plug-ins\Common\AEFilters\Write_on.AEX
Loading from the registry…
The plugin has a PiPL.
The plugin was successfully loaded from the registry.Loading VST plugins…
Scanning for the following file types: *.dll
Scanning C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins and sub-directories
————————————————————————–It may not be the same as mine but it indicates that after ‘Write_on.AEX’ it looks to load VST but what it doesn’t say as part of the .dll is the codecs (dynamic link libraries are what contain the codec drivers). Thats where I had my problem.
If you search these forums and the Adobe forums you will find it is covered in detail. What I did was open the control panel and disable the audio codecs, confirm PPro would open all the way and the while PPro was running go and re-enable the codecs. After that PPro would open normally everytime. Didn’t make sense then, still doesn’t make sense now; but nevertheless I blamed it on Bill Gates.

November 27, 2006 at 5:00 amBaz is right, I don’t and haven’t got to the program project window. The program quits loading after the “write_on.aex” initializes.
You said “What I did was open the control panel and disable the audio codecs, confirm PPro would open all the way and the while PPro was running go and re-enable the codecs.”
I don’t know how to disable the audio codecs. When I go to “Sounds” there are Sound Playbacks, Sound Recording and Midi Playback controls. How does one disable the audio codec(s)? Do you go to the soundplayback Advanced Tab and select No Speakers? Or ???Phil in Montana

November 27, 2006 at 4:48 pmControl Panel (on the left switch to “classic view” OK!
Then > Sound and audio Devices > hardware > Audio Codecs I have eleven (11) codecs listed here. Should I disable all of them? They have “priority Codes assigned to them which I suspicion gives each a usage priority similar to a “boot up” priority. Perhaps I should just disable all of them?
Now that I am into this I recall about a year ago I had some conflicts with Total Recorder which screwed up my sound system. I believe I had to re-install it………….or something I just don’t remember, to get my sound working properly again. I just never thought of a sound conflict as the culprit. I’ll go give it a try and get back to all of you shortly. Thank you all!

November 27, 2006 at 7:07 pmWho would have thought! I had Total Recorder selected as my Microphone playback for “Speech” usage. I disabled it and the premiere Pro 2 boots up just fine. I had nothing in the literature that indicated such a problem might occur and I’ve spent a lot of hours cleaning up files, uninstalling, installing etc and thanks to you here and a few on the Canopus forum I feel fine again and my problem with the boot up is resolved. I truly want to thank all of you for giving an inept guy like myself a boost. Thanks a bunch.
One other question, why did Mr. Gates require practically every file be saved as a duplicate in the Documents and Settings folder?Phil in Montana

I’m guessing it has to do with with backing up things easily without having to look for stuff all over the drive(s). All your important files in one place. That’s a guess…

November 27, 2006 at 8:46 pmOne last thing, I went into my audio codecs and selected the emulator codec once again. Now the program continues to boot up without any problem. I don’t understand it but I don’t care either. Thanks again!
