I have searched the forums for this problem. Pardon if there is one already discussed; please include the link in any reply.

I have a new DVX100A. I am using a 1394 cable to capture to my Premiere Pro 1.5. There is a set up on the Pro 1.5 for DVX100P (P for North America). The Pro 1.5 does not recognize the DVX100A. Is there a specific config on the DVX?

I can use the MotionDV (Panasonic capture apps) with no problem. So cable should not be an issue.

BTW, I have the same issue with my Panasonic PV-GS250.

    Thanks in advance.

Try making sure the camera is connected and powered on before launching Premiere. May make a difference.

Thanks. Yes, I made sure it is on.

I also followed a recommendation I read in one other thread where it is suggested to turn off the camera before plugging in the other end of the 1394 plug. It seems that 1394 cables are HOT and can cause a short if it is plug in to a camcorder that is ON.

Here is a quote from the thread:

The advice is good and always adviseable even though firewire is supposed to be hot swappable. DVX/MAC users have to be the most cautious as certain Macs have been known to take out the firewire port on the DVX while plugging in hot.

Presume you’ve already enabled device control in Premiere… Otherwise a real head scratcher.

Yes. The settings are for DVX100P though. Having a DVX100A might matter.

I notice the Pro 1.5 is picky. It does not recognize my other Panny. It does recognize the Canopus ADVC-50. I have had problems capturing from my vcrs.

I am glad I have the MotionDV tha came with my GS250.

I hope somebody has similar problem and a solution/workaround.
