Premiere only imports audio from MXF files
Hi all,
I am a freelance editor and have to edit a commercial that was shot on a Canon I believe. I am having problems with premiere because I am trying to import MXF files and only the audio is imported. I tried dragging it, I tried using File>import, and I tried the media browser and I get the same result in all.
I have all the files on a hard drive under a folder I named “media”. I tried downloading MXF converters and players but all of them show me audio files. I haven’t been able to see a single video.
“All of the files are audio then” you might ask… Not true, because each file is around 12GB heavy, and I also have the transcoded footage, which means that the DIT guy who worked on set had a chance to transcode it from the MXF. So what’s the best way for me to play those video files, and eventually import them to Premiere?

What version of Premiere are you using? Have you tried installing the free version of Resolve and importing the footage there?

This looks like you are missing the codec.
Install the XF Utility from Canon which includes the codec.———————————————–

I have Premiere Pro CC 12.0.0 (most recent version). I’ll try it with resolve and let you know, thanks for the advice!

I just found out it was shot with an Array camera, not a canon, just wanted to clarify!

I actually downloaded it yesterday and I had the same issue. I asked which camera was used and I was told it was the ARRI!

I just tried some test files from ARRI cameras. The only ones that gave Premiere Pro trouble were MXF files from the ARRI Mini. I’m guessing they were from that camera.
I was able to convert them to ProRes (or pretty much any other format) using this.
