  Premiere ignoring audio fades

  Long time fan, first time poster.

   

  Premiere is ignoring my audio fades. When I apply standard fade transitions to audio, it allows me to apply them, but it plays back the audio as it they are not there. The ends of clips often click as if the waveform is clipped when you make a straight cut.

  I have been using this machine for 5 years and this problem started suddenly. I have deleted the cache, trashed the prefs, updated the program, tried different projects, reencoding media, and sequence settings.

  Out of ideas, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  Premiere 2021 on updated windows 10

  Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz
